Preschoolers and Valentine’s Day (hollywood mega store)

By Dwight Hubbard

If you are planning a Valentine’s Day party for children, games are essential. Here are some games appropriate for the preschool crowd.

Preschool-age children love to fish. You can create a fishing game with small toy fishing poles and hearts (as fish). Use an empty plastic tub as your “lake” and put into it red hearts cut out of construction paper or cardstock. Each heart is good for a prize. One might be good for a Hershey’s kiss, or other small candy, another might be for a small plastic heart. Put magnets on the cardstock hearts and a magnet on the fishing pole. Then the kids can “fish” for hearts and win a prize at the same time. Each child should only be allowed to “catch” one fish each.

Preschoolers love balloons and you can create a heart target for them to aim their balloons at. Create a target out of cardboard or heavy cardstock and put it on the floor somewhere. You might want to have several targets on the floor. Give the kids balloons that have been blown up but aren’t tied shut. Let them let go of the balloons in the direction of the target and see where their balloon lands. Be forewarned: kids will want to play this over and over again. So either have plenty of balloons ready to go (perhaps held closed with a clothespin) or have plenty of adults around who want to blow up balloon after balloon. You can also play a similar game by putting a heart target into a box or laundry basket and having the children try to hit the target with an inflated balloon. Be sure to provide prizes for everyone!

Preschool age children love a good game of “Duck Duck Goose” or “Simon Says”. For Valentine’s Day, you can put a twist on these classic games. Have the kids play a game of “Cupid, Cupid, Love” instead of “Duck, Duck, Goose” or have them play “Cupid Says” instead of “Simon Says”. Be sure to add a smooch at the end of each order in “Cupid Says” or have the kids incorporate Valentine’s Day activities, like “Cupid says, give your neighbor a hug”.

This is a game young children love. Have them “throw smiles” at each other. Sit them in a circle and show them how the game will work. Only one person in the group will smile first. He or she will smile wildly and widely for the whole group. The rest of the group will not smile, not even a little tiny smirk. Once the smiling person is done, they will literally “wipe” the smile off their face and pass it to the next person in the group, who will repeat the wide smile and hope nobody laughs. The kids that laugh or smile are out of the game (those who should be stone-faced anyway). The game can continue until only one stone-faced person is left. Be sure to provide every child with a fun prize just for trying.

Preschool teachers might want to encourage creative thinking with a little game of “Valentine’s 20 questions”. The teacher can have a visual in mind, which might be a heart, or Cupid, or a card or something relative to the holiday. The teacher says “I’m thinking…:” and the children must ask questions about what the teacher is thinking. The teacher can give tiny clues along the way especially if he or she is losing the interest of the younger children in the group. Whoever figures out what the teacher is thinking can be the next one to begin the next round of 20 questions. Be sure to ask the child what they are thinking before the next round begins or it could go on longer than it needs to!

Children love “pin the tale on the donkey” so why not “pin the heart on Cupid”? In this game, simply provide each child with a big red heart with his or her name on it. Have a big cutout of Cupid on a wall and blindfold each child, spin him or her around and have them stick their heart on Cupid (there should be adhesive of some sort on the back of the heart). Once everyone has stuck their hearts, let them look at where they ended up.

Dressing for Confidence

By Juliet Sadler

Are you somebody who often feels down? Are you a negative thinker? Do you worry a lot? Do you often get depressed? If one of these questions is a description of you, this article may well be worth a read. I am going to give advice to help people to feel better about themselves, about how to think in a more positive manner and the benefits which this can bring.

My name is Steve Hill and I am the type of person who would always be thinking in a negative way, I used to worry about most things in life and was basically unhappy.

My life could not continue in this way and I needed to find a way out of this rut. I was now at the age of twenty-two and decided that enough was enough. I began to read books about people who were successful in life and not only found them interesting but also beneficial.

One of the books I read was about the golf player Tiger Woods. He is a very interesting character and a very good and successful golf player. It explained how he always wears red and black colours for his clothes, on the last day of each tournament. Red and black are chosen for their bold colours and it represents what his attitude is going to be on this day. He is basically saying to all of the players that he is going to just go for it, no fear, no worries, he is just going to attack. In his opinion, if he has this attitude and plays well, he will have every chance of winning the tournament. Now he obviously can not win every tournament, but he does seem to win his fair share.

I remember feeling very nervous about attending an interview. This was exactly the type of situation which I would worry and get stressed out about. I would question why I was even attending the interview as I was bound to fail. This is of course an example of my negative attitude.

From reading all of these books, I decided that worrying was certainly not going to help me and that I needed to think positive. I decided to go and buy a new suit as the couple which I had were now old and tatty. I will never forget seeing myself in the mirror with this new suit on, I looked extremely smart and I felt very proud of myself. Just wearing this new suit gave me a huge boost of confidence. I went to the interview feeling more positive than ever and pretended I was Tiger, I was just going to go for it and see what happens.

The interview went well and the answers seemed to flow as my brain was quite relaxed. I actually quite enjoyed the meeting and am happy to let you know that I was offered the position two weeks later.

When I feel down, I now go and treat myself to some new clothes. If I am going out to a social event which I do not really want to go to, I wear these new clothes to give me an extra confidence boost. I also go with the right attitude, no more worrying, no more fear, I will have fun and if I am not enjoying myself I will just come home early.

I continue to read more and more books from many different successful people. I am always aiming to improve my life and I also want to be a success. I now worry and stress far less than I did before and am generally happy with my life.

I also play a lot of sport and try to play in an attacking style. Attack is supposed to be the best form of defence and it also far more enjoyable to play sport in this way. I have even become very sad as I always try to wear red and black when I am playing snooker for example.

Finding Jewelry for Your Wedding

By Collin Harvey

When it comes time to get married, you have a lot of things on your mind. In addition to all of the planning that goes into a wedding, you have big decisions to make on wedding jewelry. The engagement ring, for instance, is the first thing you have to think about. Saving for that purchase is a big deal, so you want to make sure you pick out the right one. You’ll also have to think about a wedding band, but that’s secondary to the engagement ring.

Finding the perfect diamond ring is all about the perfect fit. That’s not meant in a literal sense, but more in how the item fits your needs. Diamond rings are expensive, but they can vary in price depending upon size, cut, clarity, and a host of different factors. Before you can pick out your engagement ring, you have to know what your budget is. Diamond rings can run, typically, anywhere from $5,000 to $30,000. You can buy a bigger, more expensive ring, but that’s only for the high rollers. A good rule of thumb is to save three whole months’ worth of pay. Depending upon your salary, this could work.

When you figure out how much you’re willing to spend, you need to think about the kind of cut your future bride wants. You can usually find this out without giving away the fact that you’re going to propose. In passing, find out if she wants a princess cut, an emerald cut, or maybe just a round cut. The options are almost endless, so you need to really understand what she’s looking for. Diamond rings might carry a big price tag, but they aren’t all created equally. Some looks are more suitable for different women, depending upon their taste.

Another important “C” word is clarity. Many people like to judge diamond rings based upon their size or their price, but clarity is much more important in the grand scheme of things. A good engagement ring will really shine when the light hits it. Sometimes, people settle for cloudier rings that are less expensive. This might be good for your budget, but it won’t give you a great looking engagement ring. Make sure that you ask and find out the grade of the diamond clarity. Jewelers are required to give out this information, so make sure you take advantage of it.

Shopping for engagement rings is fun, so you need to approach it that way. You shouldn’t have to worry about things while you are doing it. You should figure out how much you are willing to spend, and don’t stress if it’s not a whole lot. You can find some great diamond rings for less than you would think. It’s important that you do all of the research and above all else, make the ring fit your future bride. She will love it pretty much not matter what you happen to spend on it, but you’d rather have a great ring than an average looking one.
